RAF champions were awarded in Moscow

On January 20, a solemn ceremony of awarding the RAF champions took place in the Mir Concert Hall on Tsvetnoy Boulevard.

The ceremony was attended by Federation President Viktor Kiryanov, SMP Racing Program Manager Boris Rotenberg, KAMAZ Master Race Team Leader Vladimir Chagin, Sports/Education/Culture Project Manager of the Moscow Sports Department Elena Pershutkina.

2022 has become a jubilee year for both the RAF, celebrating its 30th birthday, and its president, who is 70 years old. However, the history of motorsport in Russia and public car organizations began more than a century earlier.

On May 15, we celebrate the 120th anniversary of the establishment of the Russian Automobile Society, which organized races and set national and international records in Tsarist Russia. Interestingly, it was the Russian Automobile Society that once served as a prototype for the creation of the FIA, of which the RAF is now a member.

On December 11, 1992, the FIA General Assembly accepted the RAF as a member of the FIA and recognized its sporting authority throughout Russia. Currently, the RAF has 76 regional offices in all regions of the country and the federation’s activities are structured with the assistance of 21 specialist committees.

Viktor Kiryanov: “This ceremony is organized especially for our champions. It is very important for an athlete to know that his achievements are valued, that there is an incentive to compete and win. Now we are in a difficult period, but we have achieved all the goals that we set for this year.

Our athletes retained the opportunity to participate in international competitions, and it is doubly important that they continued to win. The RAF gave them full support at all levels. In the coming year it will be very important to do everything possible to develop motor sport in Russia. I congratulate all champions, prize winners and laureates.”

At the solemn ceremony, prizes were awarded to the champions of Russia and the winners of the Russian Cup, as well as the winners of the RAF Cup in 12 disciplines. In addition, special prizes and official thanks from the Russian Automobile
federation. There is an increase in the number of women participating in various motorsport disciplines. In some of them, for example circuit races, a separate women’s classification was organized and the winners also received their prizes during the ceremony.
