Isola: Who took risks, got a chance to succeed

The race in Monaco, which took place in variable weather conditions, made it possible to see all types of tires on the track – rain, medium and slippery compounds from Hard, Medium and Soft. The head of the Italian company’s racing division, Mario Isola, summarized the results of the seventh stage of the season.

Mario Isola“We saw one of those unpredictable races in Monaco, where the strategic advantage was given to those who were more responsive to changing track conditions. Those who took risks had a chance to succeed.

Changeable weather after two sunny days caused a number of difficulties. Otherwise, the strategy would be quite simple. However, the teams had to decide when to change wet tires and which rubber to use – this was critical. The transition point, when some tires stopped working and others started working, was not affected by temperature, but by a change in the condition of smooth urban asphalt.

Added to all this were a number of other unpredictable factors – the safety car and red flags, which also required immediate solutions. Of course, these decisions were influenced by the tires available to riders.

Sergio Pérez’s decision to put Medium on the last stretch helped him win the race by keeping Carlos Sainz behind on Hard. At the same time, Sergio had to keep an eye on the condition of the rubber in the final laps.

The race used all the tires in our range – they all performed well in completely unpredictable conditions and an unknown transition point on the narrowest and most brutal track of the season.
