The 26-year-old grandson of two-time Formula 1 champion and two-time Indy 500 winner Emerson Fittipaldi extended his contract with the US team, with whom he spent two grands prix in 2020, when Roman Grosjean was injured. Last season Pietro traveled for tests in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi, for training in Mexico City and Yas Marina.
Gunter SteinerHead of Haas F1: “I have said many times that I believe that continuity and stability are the most important success factors in Formula 1. And the renewal of the contract with Pietro gives me confidence that we have a good foundation.
In Formula 1 it is important to react to every situation with minimal losses, and Pietro is a proven driver, ready to get behind the wheel and take part in the Grand Prix at any time, as he did twice in 2020 . He took part in pre-season testing and two practices last season and said the car suits his aggressive style. He is without a doubt an asset to our team and I look forward to continuing the work.”
Pietro Fittipaldi: “I am happy to continue working in Haas F1 – this team is like my family. Ahead of my fifth season in Formula 1 as official reserve and test driver for Haas.
Last year I spent two training sessions with the team, working on pre-season testing and beyond. We were able to try out some solutions for the new season. I look forward to getting the network behind the wheel of the 2023 car and hope we can take the next step forward with the VF-23.”
