Markus Erickson’s victory in the Indy 500 race has already been called “sensational” by the American press and now the Swede has secured a very prominent place in the history of world motorsport. Although when he drove in Formula 1, he did not have enough stars from the sky and he regularly lost to his teammates. But this is all in the past and now Erickson is a driver of the highly respected Chip Ganassi Racing team, and after yesterday’s win, as they say, he woke up famous.
Of the drivers of modern F1, only Fernando Alonso has experience in the Indy 500, but as we know, the Spaniard failed, although he repeatedly emphasized that he dreams of the so-called “Triple Crown”, for which he can win the Grand Prix Monaco and the 24 Hours of Le Mans should add the same performance in Indianapolis.
But time passes, Alonso has other plans for the next two years, and most likely the two-time world champion Marcus can only envy. By the way, on his pages in social networks he did not congratulate his former colleague. In any case, no rush to do that.
But who is not jealous of Markus is Max Verstappen. After the Monaco Grand Prix, he was asked if he dreamed of the Triple Crown, and this is what the world champion replied: “I would love to attend the Indy 500 as a spectator, but I don’t see the need to spend my life there.
And I don’t feel like getting the Triple Crown. Indy 500 is definitely not in my plans. I respect what these riders do, for their performance, but in my opinion they are just crazy.
I’ve been racing in Formula 1 for quite some time and I don’t have to risk my life because in IndyCar there is a potential risk of injury, broken legs or something. Let’s say the game isn’t worth the candle.
But maybe I’ll compete in Le Mans. I like endurance racing and I probably will someday, hopefully soon. But all this is not so important. Of course I try to succeed in F1 and in general in everything I do, but I don’t want to win the Triple Crown.
