Toto Wolff on Mercedes drivers…

In an interview with Auto Motor und Sport, the head of the Mercedes team spoke about his drivers…

Toto Wolff: “Lewis will always have a place in our car as long as he wants to compete. He’ll be the first to tell me it’s no longer fun or that he thinks he has some weaknesses. Now we both want to move on and we will negotiate, just like in recent years. I see no reason to change anything. Lewis Hamilton in Mercedes, like Michael Schumacher in Ferrari, are the greatest drivers of all time.

Last year George Russell performed at the same level as Lewis. George came from a team where he had a slow and unstable car, but with us he got behind the wheel of a difficult car. Lewis switched from the excellent W12 to the W13 and also had to adapt. George was ahead in some races, Lewis in others. And it was not about who will earn more points and be ahead of his partner in the championship. They worked together to fix the car’s shortcomings so it could win.

They treat each other with great respect. We understand that there is always rivalry between riders, but this rivalry must not turn into a conflict that would damage the team. I’ve never done it and never will.”
