British television channel Sky Sports F1 has been broadcasting live Formula 1 broadcasts for over a decade and has long been the main “window to the paddock” for the global English-speaking public. Although it is paid, it has gradually become more and more popular, not least because it has an excellent team of commentators and experts, including several former Formula 1 drivers.
These are Martin Brundle, Damon Hill, Jenson Button, Johnny Herbert, Paul di Resta, Anthony Davidson, Karun Chandhok and Nico Rosberg joined them in some races.
However, yesterday Johnny shared on social media a picture of the Sky Sports F1 commentary squad in their squad from last year, accompanied by a short sentence: “I will miss this team.”
And only after that it was officially confirmed that the management of the channel decided to say goodbye not only to him, but also to di Resta. They competed in Formula 1 at different times, as they belong to different generations, they are well versed in the subject, and Paul may have been helped by the fact that his career now continues in endurance racing, and he is aware of all modern trends in motorsport.
Herbert was invited to Sky Sports in 2012, di Resta joined in 2016, but next season they will not be seen in the paddock by the channel’s viewers. At least in the same quality.
“Johnny has been an integral part of our F1 team since the very first season. We will miss his humor, his cheerful personality, – said the Sky Sports representative. We thank him for the energy and enthusiasm he has shared over the past 11 years. Everyone wishes him all the best for the future.”
Under Herbert’s publication on social networks, hundreds of comments immediately appeared, and his colleagues, now former, who are genuinely concerned about his departure from the channel, were the first to respond.
The reasons why Herbert and di Resta have to leave are not reported.
