Last weekend, Mick Schumacher confidently drove several vehicles on the ice of the Baltic Sea and achieved very high marks. He made it to the final of the Race of Champions, where he lost to the experienced Mattias Ekström, but was still satisfied.
Mick Schumacher: “I congratulated Mattias and thanked him for the kind words. He is an exceptional rider, the next title of “Champion of Champions” proves this once again. He did great all weekend. I did everything I could, but it wasn’t enough.
Our actions on the track are very different from Matthias’s, and I agree with what Sebastian said on Friday: we enter the corner with just two simple tools – a screwdriver and a hammer, and rally drivers have a whole box of their tools from which to choose is required. Through experience, they perfectly feel the car, they know exactly what to do in any situation. I don’t have this knowledge yet. It takes many hours, even on a simple dirt road, to learn and improve. Then hopefully I can play against him next year.
I especially enjoyed fighting Vettel. I beat him on tarmac in Mexico in 2019 and was happy to beat him on ice again. It’s always nice to talk to Seb, to find out what he thinks about pilots. Here everyone always openly shares information, on Saturdays and Sundays I approached Matthias several times for advice. This was not enough to win, but the weekend was incredible. Thank you to everyone who participated in the Race of Champions.”
