Responding to questions from journalists at the Race of Champions, where only environmentally friendly vehicles were used, Sebastian Vettel said motorsport in general needs to think about alternatives to internal combustion engines…
Sebastian Vettel: “I love motorsport and I think a lot about the future. We have young drivers, I have kids and I think it was a privilege to go through motorsport in this way. It would be a shame if one day, for obvious reasons, it had to be banned.
The Race of Champions is a great fun event, we’re having a great time. But it’s good to see Frederick Johnson [президент Гонки чемпионов] and his whole team are thinking about how to run the race in a more responsible way – this applies to cars and the organization of such a large-scale event.
I think this is important and unavoidable. If we want to continue our sport and indulge our passion for racing, we need to think about alternatives. We have to look ahead. Otherwise, we can continue our usual way of life for a few more years, and then we will be in for a big problem. It’s nice to see that the Race of Champions is thinking about it.
Of course it depends on the type of race, but the trend is clear.”
