Steiner cited the main reason for Schumacher’s refusal

At the end of 2022, Haas refused to team up with Mick Schumacher and invited Nico Hulkenberg to take his place. Team leader Gunther Steiner said the main reason for Schumacher’s retirement was the young German driver’s lack of experience.

Günther Steiner: “Mick improved a lot last year. At times he was very good. I can say that we were even pleasantly surprised by what he brought us. However, to help the team, we decided to invite an experienced rider to take his place, repeating the 2018 scenario.

In the debut year in Formula 1, Romain Grosjean and Esteban Gutiérrez drove for Haas – and in 2022 the situation repeated itself – we had experienced and inexperienced drivers. Esteban wasn’t bad in his day, but we needed someone with more experience.

Now before us are the more experienced Kevin Magnussen, who has seven years of experience in Formula 1, and Nico Hulkenberg, who has achieved even more. As a result, we got the pair of pilots we wanted.

Unfortunately Mick has only been in Formula 1 for two years and there was a free driver on the market with ten years of experience who knows how to lead the team forward. That is why we made this decision.”
