After the finish of the Monaco Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton was among those who questioned why the actual start of the race was given an hour later than planned.
We already quoted the words of Lewis, who said on Sunday evening: “I’m not arguing that this was a mistake, but I don’t know why we weren’t allowed to start straight away. Yet we are Formula 1 drivers and bad weather is not a good reason.
I just want to say this. I thought we should have started when it was still drizzling lightly. We will address this issue at the next driver’s briefing as the race had to start on time.”
Some publications interpreted Hamilton’s words as criticizing the FIA, but today the Mercedes driver posted a message on social networks clarifying his position.
“The press says I criticized the FIA for the actions in the last race, but this is complete nonsense,” wrote Lewis Hamilton. “I think they did a great job all weekend. Can we start at the scheduled time? Possibly, but then the race would have to be stopped shortly after.
We raced when it was safe, and that’s the most important thing. Don’t use my name to create a negative agenda.”
