In Monaco, for the first time in the season, both Haas riders did not finish the race. Kevin Magnussen stopped with a leak in the ERS cooling system and Mick Schumacher crashed the car at Turn 15.
Kevin Magnussen (retirement): “I had a problem with the exchange, so I had to retire. Sorry, but nothing could be done about it. We had a good race pace – until retirement I held back Gasly and narrowed the lead over Bottas.
It’s a shame that it wasn’t possible to earn points today, because we could count on it with the car. We know we can fight.”
Mick Schumacher (retirement): “I’m doing well, but this result is disturbing. The car had speed and it was all about staying on track. Unfortunately I couldn’t do this, although I showed a fast pace and was able to attack.
Unfortunately, I overdid it and was about four inches off. However, this was enough for the car to lose traction. You’ve seen the consequences of this.”
Gunther Steiner, team leader: “Disappointing day. Kevin was very quick and we were just waiting for the moment to overtake Valtteri Bottas in the pits by cutting or cutting. Kevin followed him closely without any problems, but then there was a coolant leak in the ERS system.
We saw what happened to Mick. It is not very pleasant to have such a serious accident again. Let’s see what we’re going to do next.”
