The main events of the race weekend in Melbourne start tomorrow, but the participants of the Supercars support race already left for the renovated Albert Park track on Thursday. In practice and the first qualifying there were serious crashes in Turn 5 involving Brock Feeney and Jake Kostecki.
Both drivers hit a new Tecpro barrier as they exited a fast right turn and their cars were thrown into the middle of the track. The FIA concluded that the barrier at Turn 5 was too close to the track, so it was decided to shorten the length by twenty metres.
Haas driver Mick Schumacher said of the changes on the track: “I haven’t seen them yet, but I’ll definitely be watching. I am confident that Formula 1 and the promoters are doing everything they can to keep the track as safe as possible and put the Tecpro barriers in the right place.”
