Nick de Vries has won a lawsuit against him from a former sponsor who supported the Dutch driver during his Formula 2 days and is now ready for his debut season in F1.
In January we wrote that businessman Jeroen Shothorst claimed part of the driver’s income, insisting this was implied by their long-term agreements, and that he once loaned de Vries 250,000 euros through his investment company under the condition that if Nick was in Formula 1, he will pay him half of his earnings.
Hearings on this case took place in Amsterdam last Friday. According to the local newspaper De Telegraaf, the judge rejected Shothorst’s claims and considered the requirement to publish the details of all De Vries’ contracts with racing teams, among other things, untenable.
According to the court’s verdict, De Vries fulfilled all obligations towards the businessman engaged in real estate trading, and moreover: Shothorst and his company Investrand now have to pay all legal costs.
“I have fulfilled all my obligations to Investrand in relation to the loan agreements and have always provided him with all the information he was entitled to under our agreement,” de Vries said after the trial. The fact that the court ruled in my favor is in line with my expectations. Hopefully things will settle down now and I can concentrate on preparing for the Formula 1 season.”
