In 2014, the FIA introduced a points system for riders who became involved in incidents or violations of the rules. If a driver scores 12 points in 12 months, he will be taken out of the race, but in Formula 1 that has not happened yet. Penalties expire 12 months after accrual.
In Monaco, two riders received penalty points. Alex Albon is penalized for going off the track in Turn 10 against Mick Schumacher and not regaining the advantage. Esteban Ocon was found responsible for the collision with Lewis Hamilton, because he left no room for his opponent.
