Stoffel Vandorn, the reigning Formula E champion, will combine his participation in the electric series this year with a job as reserve driver for Peugeot’s works racing team.
In Formula E, the experienced Belgian moved to DS Penske, which, as the name of the team suggests, has direct ties to one of the premium brands of the Stellantis Group conglomerate, so the partnership with Peugout seems quite logical. In addition, Stoffel will also have to regularly attend F1 races as he will serve as reserve driver for Aston Martin alongside Felipe Drugovic.
Vandorn was due to drive a Peugeout 9X8 hypercar for testing in Bahrain late last year, but these plans were not destined to come true as the racer needed urgent surgery to remove his appendix.
“I feel that my program is the perfect combination of endurance racing, Formula E and Formula 1,” said Vandoorne. – It’s great that I will participate in the process of finalizing the Peugeout hypercar. The unique concept of the car made everyone talk about Peugeot again. Together we can achieve great successes in the future.”
In 2023, the factory Peugeot team will participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time since 2011 for the first full season in the WEC since its return to endurance racing.
One of her hypercars is driven by Paul di Resta, Mikkel Jensen and Jean-Eric Vergne, Vandoorne’s DS Penske partner, and the second crew includes Loic Duvall, Gustavo Menezes and Nico Muller.
