Charles Leclerc gets behind the wheel of Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari

The Ferrari team gave Charles Leclerc the chance to race around the Abu Dhabi circuit in the Ferrari F2003-GA, a car driven by Michael Schumacher 20 years ago.

Speaking of such machines, the Scuderia racers took seven wins (including two for Rubens Barrichello) in 2003 and won five pole positions, making a total of 13 podium finishes. That year, Schumacher became world champion for the sixth time and Ferrari won the constructors’ championship again.

Named after Gianni Agnelli, the former head of the FIAT group, the F2003-GA was developed by Ross Brawn, then Ferrari technical director, and the team’s chief designer, Rory Byrne.

On Monday evening, Charles Leclerc shared on social media a video captured by an onboard camera, showing fans driving around the Yas Marina Circuit in the historic car.

“An incredible day, because in Abu Dhabi I drove this beast, made in 2003,” commented Charles, and this video was viewed over half a million times in less than a day.

Jean-Tody, the ex-FIA president, also flew to Abu Dhabi and witnessed Leclerc driving a car built by the Scuderia during the period he ran the team from Maranello, and must have had strong nostalgia.
