Mark Rushbrook, head of Ford’s sports department, spoke about the financing of the concern’s program in Formula 1 …
Mark Rushbrook “The deal with Red Bull has no impact on our rest of the motorsport programme. This is an independent contract. We will continue to support motorsport around the world with a focus on electric vehicles and move forward in that direction. A return to Formula 1, which has the most global coverage of any of our programs, will be an important pillar for further development, but not at the expense of any of the current programs.
We take racing seriously. We don’t have an unlimited budget in any of the series we participate in, although racing sometimes prompts it. In terms of budget, our program in Formula 1 has no influence on other programs. I would say it’s going to be the optimal combination of technologies that are strategic to us, mainly electrical, and marketing.
The key point is the hybrid part of the power plant, although we can optimize the internal combustion engine design given the modeling and testing tools we have. Of course we will work with the engineers of the team and exchange information.”
