Following Frederic Vasser’s move to Ferrari, the Sauber Group decided to review the Alfa Romeo team’s management structure and redistribute functions. As of now, it has no traditional leader, but three people are responsible for different activities.
Andreas Seidl, who previously managed the McLaren team, is now the CEO of the Sauber Group, while Alessandro Alunni Bravi’s role has been dubbed “team representative”. He answered questions from journalists after the presentation of the 2023 car yesterday and explained how the new structure should work.
“There may not be any structure in a Formula 1 team, so we decided to divide the functions between different people who work on and off the track,” said Alunni Bravi. “I will be the team representative, which means I will have to communicate with Heavy Pujolar, our lead race engineer, and Beat Zender, the sports director, but my duties are different from those they are responsible for.
I will represent the team in meetings with the FIA, with the Formula 1 management, and of course I will communicate with the press and negotiate with sponsors.
I think we have taken an important step, and such a structure will help to better solve all the tasks ahead. Simply put, the team structure is organized differently. I think all teams are trying to improve their management model so that it becomes more effective.
Efficiency is key and it’s not just about efficient production. We also need to be efficient on the track and we all agreed on how all internal processes will be organised. Herein lies the difference.
“Team Leader” is just a job title. In our case, the team leader functions are divided between me, Beat. Zender and Heavy Pujolar, who is responsible for the technical side.
