Logan Sargent became the first American driver in a long time to complete a full season in Formula 1 after being driven by Scott Speed for Toro Rosso in 2006.
Today, Logan is in Portugal, in a training camp, where he is intensively engaged in physical preparation, preparation for the upcoming pre-season testing, and in an interview with the Williams press service, he talked about how he was used to getting used to to live in Europe as a teenager. It remains important for him to occasionally return to his homeland, to Florida, where his parents and friends live.
Logan Sargent: “I try to go home whenever possible, where I can disconnect from everything. Although of course the training continues there, but at home I always manage to recharge my batteries properly.
I left my parental home at a fairly young age, moved to Europe, and leaving normal life behind turned out to be the hardest part. But it seems to me, since I was so young, that it even helped, because I didn’t take what happened so close to heart, although, of course, sometimes it wasn’t easy.
Sometimes I was homesick, I wanted to return to my friends, but it should be noted that there were always good people next to me who helped me find the right mood. They reminded me that now it is necessary to make certain sacrifices, but then it will all pay off.
I cannot say exactly how old I was when I firmly decided to become a professional cyclist. It feels like it was a gradual process because I was into karting as a kid because it was fun and racing was fun. Usually we went to the go-kart track with my father and brother.
It is unlikely that all this seemed very serious then, but only until I moved to Europe. As a child you naturally dream of becoming a Formula 1 racer, but a lot has happened between the childish passion for karting and the realization of this dream. We just chose a certain path, followed it and it brought us here at Williams.”
