The trial of the protesters who tried to disrupt the British Grand Prix is nearing completion.
Yesterday in the Royal Court of the English city of Northampton, the verdict was heard by the jury, which heeded the arguments of the prosecutor’s office and after many hours of deliberation decided that the guilt of six environmental activists from the Just Stop Oil movement (the name can be interpreted as “Just stop using oil”) is fully proven.
They are charged with conspiracy to disturb public order and disrupt the British Grand Prix. Now they face real jail terms, but they can be released on bail if they promise not to take part in such actions in the future.
The court will determine the amount of the sentence at the next meeting, scheduled for March 31, when the verdict will be announced.
The jury confirmed that the demonstrators seriously endangered Formula 1 drivers and marshals working on the British Grand Prix, although all the defendants attempted to deny their guilt and assured that their actions had been carefully considered from a safety point of view.
The court did not accept these statements, especially since some of the environmental extremists had previously been seen engaging in various anti-social acts. For example, they chained themselves to the goal during a football match in the British Premier League and glued themselves to the frame of a painting by Vincent van Gogh in the London Gallery.
