The AlphaTauri team in New York presented the livery of the new car – it was initially stressed that this would only be a presentation of the AT04 design, not the car itself. Therefore, there were no special ceremonies: when it was already well past midnight in Moscow, a two-minute video appeared on the team’s YouTube channel, devoted not even to a car, but to a new collection of clothes from the AlphaTauri brand.
A little later, studio and other photos of the car appeared, so you can take a closer look at its new war paint. There were some changes in the color scheme, most notably red inserts associated with the logos of the Polish oil and gas company Orlen, the team’s new sponsor from Faenza. Of course, a lot of space on the AT04’s body and aerodynamic components is given to other AlphaTauri partners.
In general, we can say that the car, or rather the design, makes a good impression. How she will go and what results Yuki Tsunode and Nick de Vries will achieve in 2023 is another question, the answer of which we will learn over time.
French toastTeam Principal: “It is critical that we expand our footprint in the US market and I am delighted that we were able to showcase our livery in New York to show our appreciation to the US public.
Last year Yuki Tsunoda had problems with his car. I expect we will have a pretty fast car this season, so he should always aim to reach the qualifying finals and consistently finish in the top ten. Accordingly, he should earn much more points than in 2022.
Nick de Vries drove his only Formula 1 race at Monza last year and did very well. In any case, he has a rich professional experience, he won races and championships in various categories. That’s why I’m sure he can show good results soon and finish in the top ten.
Nick is distinguished by high technical training and composure. I think he will immediately understand the features of the new car, quickly get used to driving and his information will be useful.
And one more thing: if Max Verstappen secured the title quite early last season, then I don’t think any of the drivers will have such a clear advantage this year. I think the battle for championship victory will continue until the end of the season. That’s what the fans want to see, and that’s what we all want to see.”
Jody Egginton, technical director: “We decided on the layout and chassis development process of the AT04 quite early in 2022 and started wind tunnel research in July. The first concept was devised even before that by our specialists from the advanced developments group.
Almost every part of the car is a major development over what was on the AT03, and in terms of chassis layout the focus here was on an aspect like compactness to create a good base for improving aerodynamics . At the same time, we tried to eliminate the weaknesses identified in last year’s car.
Nick DeVries: “My road to Formula 1 turned out to be longer than usual, but I am even more grateful to have been given such an opportunity. It takes time to create effective working relationships, but I was welcomed very warmly in the team.
It seemed that everyone was happy with my arrival – and did everything they could to integrate me into the team as quickly as possible. I visited different departments, talked to engineers. We talked about my preferences, about my requirements for the car. On the one hand, this is important for the integration in the team, on the other hand, we talked about what can be improved, how to approach the solution of some technical issues.
I had the pleasure of attending my first presentation as an AplhaTauri team rider. The livery of the car looks great and I want to see the AT04 on the track as soon as possible.”
Yuuki Tsunoda: “My main goal is to perform consistently in every race, to earn points. I want everything to be under control for me so that I can interact better with the team, consistently make my way to the qualifying finals and earn points in the races.
Now I’m performing on a completely different level and keeping my best qualities from the first season. I am in better control of the situation, I am more involved in the work of the team, I have learned a lot and I am taking an active part in the development of the machine.
It’s great that New York has been chosen to showcase our new 2023 car colors. The classic AlphaTauri colors look great on the car and I can’t wait to try it out!”
