Last year Nick de Vries drove one race in Formula 1, replacing Alex Albon at Monza – and after the finish he couldn’t just leave the car from fatigue. This year, the Dutchman is running a full season in AlphaTauri – and paid special attention to physical training.
Nick de Vries: “This low season I really spend a lot of time in the gym. In the series I have raced in the last three years, my physical preparation was sufficient, but Formula 1 is on a completely different level. Stress and load are so great that periodic training in the gym and jogging is clearly not enough. You need some serious physical training, which is what I focused on this winter.
In addition, I will integrate in a new environment, a new team, meet new people, understand at what level the team is and what we can improve. I used to be busy building my career, keeping all the doors open so that one day I could realize my dream. Now that I’m here, my main goal is to succeed in Formula 1.”
