As with McLaren, Aston Martin decided to present a new car on the 13th, and the line-up also changed – star Fernando Alonso became Lance Stroll’s partner, which will make the team’s struggle even more fundamental – or not. We’ll find out soon.
Lawrence Walk, Executive President of AMF1: “This year we are moving to our new modern base, and this is a more serious move than just a statement of our intentions. Due to this, the capabilities of each employee of the organization will grow, everyone will become stronger, and this will help to quickly achieve the goal of closing the gap with the group of leaders and eventually becoming a member of it.
Last year we showed the determination and belief it takes to move forward, and now we have created a completely new machine that is in line with our vision and our ambitious goals.
I also want to thank all our partners who show confidence in our organization. Believe me too, it feels like we’re making a fresh start, and it’s all incredibly reassuring on the eve of a new season.”
In the new season, the team will be led to success by Mike Krak, who expects victories in the coming years – thanks to the investment of Lawrence Stroll, who is building a new base that will soon become the most modern in Formula 1, invited two-time champion Fernando Alonso out, who dreams of winning a third title – and many leading members of other teams. He knows the secrets of success – and knows how to repeat them.
For fans, the presentation of the new Aston Martin AMR23 was virtual, but the racers pulled the real flag of Great Britain from the car in the presence of some guests and journalists, testifying to the continuity of generations in the team , which will be played by the Spaniard and the Canadian. But the flag was also pulled together not by them, but by a special cable.
Mike Crack, Team boss: “In the second half of last season we made real progress by working hard on the development of the car. car. This year we want to continue this trend and fight for a good result from the first race.
A good start to the season and maintaining that momentum is essential for success in the first half of the championship. And we, as a team, are committed to succeeding and further strengthening all areas of our work.
The arrival of Fernando Alonso, who will further strengthen the composition of our team’s drivers, is testament to our focus on the future. Now every element of this scheme works effectively together.
The AMR23 was developed by technical director Dan Fallows, who tried to expand the work with important details until the last moment. Mark Gray was responsible for assembling the car – this is his 19th Formula 1 car.
Dan Fallows, technical director: “Our design team was resolute in their desire to adopt a no-compromise approach when working with current technical regulations. We want to rise to higher positions and challenge all the teams ahead of us. And this cannot be done if you cling to the past and adopt a conservative approach.
The AMR23 is a major refinement of the car we made in the second half of last season. We’ve made improvements in all critical areas, optimizing fixes that have the most impact on speed. The new car is the embodiment of our shared vision that we have developed over the past few months.
Now we need to focus on achieving our ambitious goals and implementing the car modernization program – some updates should be ready by the first race, but we will improve the AMR23 throughout the season.
Fernando Alonso: The new car looks great, but now you have to make sure it’s fast every race weekend. Can’t wait to get behind the wheel.
I was well received by the team. In recent months I have been in constant contact and in January I already arrived at the base. I worked on the simulator, met new people, looked around the new base, which will be completed in the near future.
A lot is happening in the team and I feel this energy. Last year new people came to the technical department, soon we will have a new wind tunnel, a new rider in the team – everything is great! Like I said, I can’t wait to get behind the wheel.
Why did I decide to join the team? I saw new hires coming to Aston Martin, and this is testament to the team’s high ambitions. The fact that Lawrence Stroll is in charge of the project also played a big role. The best people and the desire to succeed is the right recipe for success in Formula 1. I hope we will achieve it as soon as possible.
First of all, we have to make sure we have a good base for future Aston Martin cars. Last year the team had difficulties in the first half of the season, but they overcame them and had a good second half of the year. Hopefully progress will continue into 2023.
We are firmly on the ground, but we are not satisfied with fourth or second place. Yes, we may not win right away, but we have to make sure that the 2023 car becomes a good basis for future projects.”
Lance walk: “Looking at the AMR23 I can see that it embodies a new way of thinking, and it is also noticeable that work has been done to create a very aggressive layout and upgrade the aerodynamic body kit. All this should really help us in the new season, as this is the second year in which the current technical regulations are in place.
I look forward to working with Fernando. We’ve always had a good relationship and it’s great that we’re on the same team now.”
