Daniel Ricciardo’s contract with McLaren runs until the end of 2023, but last week team boss Zach Brown made it clear that the contract with the rider includes the option of early termination.
Such words from Brown were interpreted by many to mean that the team had already prematurely decided to refuse cooperation with Ricciardo, but according to The Race McLaren has no such chance.
Typically, contracts include the possibility of early termination by both the team and the rider under certain conditions. However, in the case of McLaren and Daniel Ricciardo, the early termination option is only available to the driver, not the team.
The answer to the question of whether Daniel will continue to drive for McLaren in 2023 therefore depends on him. Judging by the words of Riccardo, said after qualifying in Monaco, he does not intend to give up.
“I have a contract, but I don’t want to be 14th, I’m not racing for that,” Daniel said last weekend. – Even after a hard day, I am 100% confident in my abilities, which is why such results are even more upset. I would like to see it differently, but the current problems will not break me.”
