Oscar Piastri’s Formula 1 debut coincides with a similar event in Logan Sargent’s career, with the Australian gearing up for his first season at McLaren and his former team-mate Prema donning a Williams uniform.
In 2020, both fought for the Formula 3 title to the last and Piastri became champion, just a few points ahead of Theo Purcher and Logan Sargent in the season finale. According to Oscar, they have maintained normal relations ever since and he is happy to meet an old acquaintance in the World Cup paddock.
“I still have a good relationship with Logan and of course we were partners in F3,” Piastri told Racer. – Now we both live in the UK, and almost nearby, and sometimes we train in the same gym. That’s why we still communicate a little bit off track.
But when we were partners, we got on very normally and I am very happy that we will debut in the highest category of motorsport at the same time. I’ve worked with him in his time, I know how fast he is, and his road to Formula 1 wasn’t the easiest either. Overall it’s great that we’re both playing in the World Cup now and I’m happy for him. Of course, as newcomers, we will do our best to achieve good results.”
