Wolff: This year we want to return to the leaders

The Mercedes-AMG F1 Team has unveiled its new car, the W14 E Performance, which brings bold decisions based on the experience gained over the past season. According to Toto Wolff, the team leader, they plan to return to the lead in 2023 and fight for victory in the championship.

Toto Wolff: “I can see how much effort the team from our organization has put into preparing for the presentation of the car. Everyone is motivated and full of energy. The W14 should be competitive and allow you to fight in the group of leaders.

Our hopes and expectations are always linked to the ability to fight for victory in the World Cup. But last year the rivals were very strong and we were in an overtaking position. Fighting at the forefront requires qualities such as resilience, determination and the ability to work in a team.

We are ready for any challenge, our priority is the team interest and we will do everything we can to win back every possible split second. This year we want to return to the leaders.

Last season taught us a lot. I hope that in 2023 we will prove that we can solve problems and improve the car. Of course the W13 had potential, but we never got around to revealing it, although we were able to compete with the car for high results towards the end of the season. However, on some tracks we were still plagued by the well-known pitching problem and the car never allowed the drivers to attack at full power. But we tried to keep all the benefits of W13 and address its weaknesses.

It was too heavy, so we tried to understand how to reduce weight and tried to save every gram. And now you see that some parts of the car are just made of carbon, and some are painted with black matte paint.

The colors under which we want to move forward are black and silver. So history repeats itself a bit: when we changed the color of the car in 2020, the most important factor was our support for the ideas of diversity and equality, which are always close to our hearts. It was then that black became part of our DNA, so we are happy to return to it.”
