Last year Ferrari had to limit the power of the engines during the season due to reliability problems, but the head of the power plant department Enrico Gualtieri considers this problem solved in a video published by the team.
Enrico Gualtieri: “Preparing for the new season is one of the most intense moments of the season, and this winter was no exception.
Since last year, power plant refinements have been frozen, including working fluids, oils and fuels. Only updates related to reliability are allowed, which was our Achilles heel last season. All winter we’ve been working on solving these problems – and we’ve made serious progress.
We worked on the areas that caused the most problems last season, with a focus on the internal combustion engine and electric motors. We addressed all the weak points of the power plant components, revised the assembly procedures. All employees of the department and suppliers participated in the work. We used all available tools to understand the root causes of the issues we encountered on track.
We have improved some parts where necessary. The work went on constantly, we improved one part after another to achieve the required reliability. The new items worked well on the test bench, but we can only evaluate the progress made on a real track.”
