The Alpine presentation was the tenth and last of the season. The rest of the teams have already shown novelties, although in most cases these were not new cars, but a new coloring of old cars – this is the trend. We won’t see the current versions of the cars even during testing starting next week, but for the first race, which is only a few weeks away, the teams will try to get into optimal shape at that time .
A few days before the presentation, the new Alpine car made its track debut – as part of the shooting day allowed by the regulations, the team held a run-in at Silverstone with the participation of the main racers.
The presentation started quite late – at 23:00 Moscow time. It was opened by a pre-filmed video featuring the company’s road cars driven by racers and other team members. Although it looked spectacular, it was strange – at first it was from them that the protective covers were removed. Well-made videos about slippery French roads were very reminiscent of episodes from the movie “Taxi”, but everyone gathered for a different reason.
Just 12 minutes after the start of the presentation, the director transferred to the prestigious, crowd-filled Printworks club in London, where the presentation of the new Alpine A523 took place.
First on the podium were the bosses: Luca de Meo, CEO of the Renault Group, Laurent Rossi, CEO of Alpine Cars and team leader Otmar Szafnauer.
Lauren Rossi: “When you introduce a new car, you are always incredibly proud. Since Alpine joined the Formula 1 grid in 2021, I have been delighted to see our continued progress each season. Everyone at Alpine is united by a desire to compete and succeed in racing – a legacy of our heritage that will define the company’s sports program for many years to come.
I would like to thank the Enstone and Weary engineering teams, led by Pat, Matt and Bruno, for their excellent work in developing the great A523 – we look forward to seeing it on track.
I am proud to have entrusted Esteban and Pierre with the opportunity to represent our brand as key drivers in Formula 1. I am sure they will do a great job with it both on and off the track and contribute to the team’s success in achieving its goal. Alpine is going up and will continue to do so, I’m sure.”
Otmar Safnauerteam boss: “In this part of the season, everyone is looking forward to the most important moment: the presentation of the new car, which summarizes the work done.
Achieving our goal in 2022, of achieving a well-deserved fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship, gives us great satisfaction. This is an important milestone in Laurent Rossi’s 100-race plan at the start of the season. We have just under 80 races left for this mission and I am proud to lead the team in this tough challenge.
Our goal in 2023 is to finish at least fourth again, with more convincing results – more finishes, more points and fewer retirements. I have high expectations for everyone in the team, not least Esteban and Pierre, who will work together to achieve the best results for the team.”
Like last year, the new car was presented in two color schemes that will be used at various Grands Prix. Pink/blue livery in Alpine and title partner BWT. The bright pink BWT livery will be used in the first three Grands Prix of the season.
Esteban Okon, who is with the team for the fourth year, will be joined this year by his compatriot Pierre Gasly – in 2023 Alpine will have an all-French selection.
Esteban Ocon: “I am very excited to start the new season with the Alpine team, which will be the fourth in the family of Enstone and Weary for me. We’ve made great progress in 2022 and everyone at bases in France and the UK has been working hard on the car for 2023. I can’t wait for the new season to continue the upward trend we’ve followed in the past. Instead, pre-season testing would begin so we could evaluate the car.
The livery of the A523 looks great – it really stands out and I have no doubt the car will look great on the track.
In the winter I worked hard to prepare for the start of the season. I feel in great shape and ready to race again.”
Pierre Gasley: “It is fantastic that I have been officially introduced as an Alpine team rider and now I am looking forward to the next phase of my career. I can’t wait to evaluate the potential and capabilities of the A523 during winter testing and get to know the team further.
At the end of 2022 I was appreciating the power of the A522 and seeing the team working on the development of this year’s machine – all of this encouraged me for what lies ahead at Alpine. It’s great to see the dedication in the day-to-day work of everyone at Enstone and Weary – our people consistently lead the team forward. I can’t wait to help the team achieve this year’s goals.”
