In 2023, Fernando Alonso joined the Aston Martin team. Despite his wealth of experience, the two-time Formula 1 champion is confident he will need the help of partner Lance Stroll to adapt to the new team.
Fernando Alonso: “The team experience that Lance already has will be very important to me for the first few races. I remember coming back to F1 in 2021 and in the first four or five grands prix I had serious problems with the front tyres, the steering and things like that.
I’m looking forward to this process again, now that I’m joining a new team, where I’m waiting for a new handling, a new approach to racing. I will keep a close eye on how Lance works and what I can learn from him. I think this is a win-win situation for the team, because in such a situation we will both try to fly as fast as possible.
Together with Lance we worked a lot on the simulator, as did our test pilots Stoffel Vandorn and Felipe Drugovich – they worked on parallel developments. Lance and I feel the season is important to both of us. I think it’s time for both of us to take it to the next level and help the team.”
