Piastri: Engineers wanted to work on their program

The McLaren team had a collision with the MCL60 during a filming day in Bahrain the previous day. Team newcomer Oscar Piastri was able to drive a few laps around the Sakhir circuit before sharing his impressions.

Oscar Piastri: “Obviously I didn’t have much time to get used to the car. In addition, the machine is new to the team, so the engineers wanted to work on their program and learn more about the MCL60 they need.

Everything is on an equal footing, but for me as a debutant it’s a little more difficult, but this is just one of the challenges I have to overcome. I have faith in the team – together we will try to pick up speed as quickly as possible and learn as much as possible in a day and a half of testing.

In fact, a day and a half of testing is not that much. During this time you have to learn a lot about trying, getting comfortable behind the wheel, doing aerodynamic tests, understanding the car and its limits. We have a lot to do with the team to find this limit as soon as possible.”
