Rivals have questions about Ferrari’s aerodynamics

Immediately after the presentation of the new Ferrari car and its first entry into service at the factory test track in Fiorano, the Italian team’s rivals had questions about some of the aerodynamic solutions that distinguish the SF-23.

First of all, we are talking about tricky air channels hidden in the side pontoons, which allow you to optimize the flow,
facing the back of the machine. The solution is based on a well-known principle, first implemented by Red Bull Racing in 2014 and called the S-air channel, but interpreted differently.

According to Italian sources, such an air duct is a technically very complex solution, organically integrated into the design and layout of the machine, integrated with all its systems, so it will be very difficult to copy and reproduce it.

In Maranello they started experimenting with different ideas a long time ago and they started making the F-23 right after last summer’s French Grand Prix, when the modernization of last year’s car was stopped. Therefore, the team had time to weigh everything, think it over and execute it correctly.

The FIA has already informed Ferrari that requests have already been received from several participating teams – they want to know the federation’s position on the conformity of such an S-duct with the technical regulations. However, this is quite normal practice, during the season FIA experts often have to respond to such requests. But Ferrari is convinced that all solutions implemented in the SF-23 are absolutely legal.
