Frederic Wasser: It’s too early to judge the speed of the SF-23

The Ferrari team is getting a lot of attention before the start of the season, both for the fact that it has recently changed its mind, and for the curious technical solutions embodied in the new SF-23 car. But perhaps mainly due to the fact that it is the Scuderia that is considered Red Bull Racing’s strongest rival – at least for now.

Of course, Frederic Vasseur, who replaced Mattia Binotto as head of the team, will have to withstand the greatest pressure, although at today’s press conference in Bahrain he did not exaggerate the influence of this factor.

“The determination and passionate desire to succeed is perhaps felt a little more strongly at Ferrari. But in the end, this work is not much different from what I did in other teams,” said Vasser. – If you are a real racer, then there is no difference, you work in Italy or in another country. The essence remains the same: you want always that the team gets stronger and performs to the best of its ability.

My first impressions of working at the new place are good, the presentation of the new car went perfectly and so far everything is going well. However, it is still too early to judge the speed of the SF-23. Now the most important thing is to put in the miles and so far everything is going according to plan.

The head of the Scuderia said a few words about the team’s drivers: “When we talk about Carlos Sainz, we were close to cooperation a few times, for example with Renault. But I parted ways with this team shortly before he joined. I also tried to invite him to Sauber, but he didn’t want to.

We have known each other for a long time, in the youth series, and now I am very satisfied, because my first impressions are quite good. His team-mate, Charles Leclerc, has clearly become a more mature professional. And although we have only been working together for a very short time at Ferrari, I can say one thing: our cooperation is developing very well. I think the composition of the team is very good.”

When asked about Ferrari’s technical decisions, for which his rivals had already sent questions to the FIA, Vasseur replied: “You probably know that all teams are in contact with the FIA. We do exactly the same, so we have no problems at all.”
