Sargent: An experienced partner sets the right guidelines

Williams drivers completed quite a few laps on the first day of testing in Bahrain, over 70 each, and were generally pleased with Thursday’s results.

Logan Sargent: “It’s great that I finally got the chance to work behind the wheel of a car, I felt quite comfortable and I think I gradually added in throughout the day. There were difficulties, the grip was at a relatively low level, but we will continue to work on it tomorrow.

I have a full day of riding on Friday and I’m hoping to take a step forward, but we’re going in the right direction. For the team and for me the most important thing now is to put in the mileage, we have a very tight work schedule at the track and we have fully completed the program – this is very good. Tomorrow we just have to continue on the same footing.

In preparation for my first Grand Prix I need to find a range of settings where I feel comfortable flying, and tomorrow we will work more on speed, while today’s program was mainly long series of circles. In general, I try to move forward gradually.

My partner and I have a good working relationship, Alex sets the right guidelines, I watch him work with the car and then I try to replicate it, which makes my job much easier. He is a very fast and experienced driver and I can count on him for everything.”

Alex Albon: “We’ve done a lot of laps, which is a positive thing and the car has been running quite reliably so far. My partner and I will be working on the track for a day and a half, everything is going according to plan, although it is still difficult to judge the speed capabilities of the FW45. But the first impressions are not bad, although it is clear that there is still a lot of work to be done.

In general, everything is fine, but could be better. Let’s see how it goes, but these conditions, heat and wind, are more in line with what awaits us this season than the weather at Silverstone, where we spent the first run-in.

Just behind the first day of testing, but the most important thing is that we can compare the impressions received with last year, check whether we have been able to make progress in the right areas, and continue to fine-tune to achieve the optimal balance.
