On the second day of testing, the Haas F1 drivers completed 135 laps for two, with Kevin Magnussen driving the VF-23 in the morning and being replaced by Nico Hulkenberg after the break.
The American team focused on solving several problems: after a quick test of the effectiveness of the aerodynamics, it started to find the optimal mechanical settings, comparing them with the data obtained the day before. Kevin then held a simulated race and in the afternoon Niko and the engineers tested the reliability of all car systems.
Kevin Magnussen: “The impressions are not bad, although it is always difficult to compare our work with the results of rivals. But so far everything is going well and we are happy with the car.
We must continue to work to better understand its features, and today we studied other aspects and experienced something that was not included in the program yesterday, so the study continues.
There were almost no difficulties and I am happy that we are now starting to work faster, and this is already a more interesting activity.”
Nico Hulkenberg: “There was a lot of work, we did a lot of tasks and, in my opinion, we collected a lot of interesting information. In addition, I am gradually getting used to driving this car, testing it in different conditions, which is common in testing.
I don’t think imitating qualifying is my priority because I’ve done a lot of laps and know what tasks still need to be done. Tomorrow morning I will be behind the wheel again if the temperatures are not quite representative.”
