Alan Jones fears Ricciardo will be fired from McLaren

Alan Jones, the Australian F1 veteran who won the title in 1980, believes that if Daniel Ricciardo can’t improve his performance quickly, he will have to say goodbye to McLaren.

Over seven races, Daniel was only able to earn 11 points while his partner, Lando Norris – 48. We quoted the words of Zack Brown, head of McLaren Racing, who did not hide that Ricciardo’s performance fell short of the team’s expectations and let hinted that the three-year contract with him provided “mechanisms” that would allow his action to be terminated earlier than planned, if necessary.

“Daniel’s future at McLaren is in doubt at the moment,” Jones told Melbourne’s Herald Sun newspaper. “If he doesn’t improve soon, I honestly don’t think he will stay there long.

He’s a great driver and a great guy, but of course we all know that good guys don’t achieve much, especially in Formula 1. The more spirited the driver’s character, the better – there are many examples to confirm this.

As for contracts, they mean little in F1. If the situation remains as it is now, I have no doubt that McLaren will use one of the conditions set out in the contract.

At the same time, it does not seem that Daniel himself is very concerned about what is happening and all kinds of negative opinions that are increasingly appearing in the press. It is enough to follow his recent activities on social networks. Today, for example, Ricciardo is quietly preparing for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in the company of Jack Duhan, a young and promising Australian competing in Formula 2, as well as Scotty James, a four-time Olympic snowboarding champion.

But he also finds time for fun, while combining business with pleasure: he engages in juggling, which helps to develop the coordination of movements so necessary for Formula 1 racers.
