Aston Martin has decided to end speculation over who will drive the team’s second car if an injured Lance Stroll does not start the Bahrain Grand Prix.
On Sunday, the team released a brief statement saying:
“The team is still giving Lance, who is recovering from injury, the chance to race. But if his physical condition does not allow him to start, Felipe will be behind the wheel of the AMR23 and will be partnered by Fernando Alonso.
Felipe Drugovic, last year’s Formula 2 champion, became Aston Martin’s reserve driver this season and certainly couldn’t expect to get the chance to test in Bahrain instead of Stroll. He drove the AMR23 twice for half a day, completed 117 laps and did well in the tasks.
Apparently the team has no doubt that the Brazilian championship newcomer is quite capable of a more difficult task – in the Bahrain Grand Prix, to say the least.
