Summing up the results of the tests in Bahrain, Fernando Alonso promised that together with his new team he would gradually improve, because the Aston Martin car has great potential, and in three days of work on the track he was far from being fully revealed .
“We are continuing to study the characteristics of the new car,” said the two-time world champion. “Last year Aston Martin had some problems, so the team decided to change the concept behind the car, and it is 95% new. We will continue to experiment with settings and other things, but it will take a few races to reach the full potential of the AMR23.
Last year’s concept was not good enough, but now we have the opportunity to increase the efficiency of the machine by more than 5%. Ultimately, all F1 teams have a similar philosophy when it comes to racing. All top professionals. But there is an energy in Aston Martin that will allow for a title dispute in the future; a new base will be completed in the summer and a new wind tunnel will become an important part of the infrastructure in the future.
All of this is, of course, inspiring. I think success will come within two years, but the team is striving to achieve it faster. Considering how many talented specialists have moved to Aston Martin, it seems to me that this is a promising project.
So far everything is going well. Moving from team to team is always difficult and you have to figure out a lot of things. In testing we found that the AMR23 takes a very different approach to settings compared to last year’s car. Everything is different: tuning the brakes, engine etc. There are many differences, so we tried different options – it seems that we have roughly determined the direction of further work, but it will take several races to find the optimal balance accessible in all nuances.
It cannot be said that we have done everything we wanted to because the list of tasks is very long and about half of them are completed. But these were just tests and we will continue this work during the first races.”
