Mike Krak: Plan B will be discussed next week

Mike Krak, head of Aston Martin F1, said the team still hopes that Lance Stroll will return to action and start the Bahrain Grand Prix, but they are also preparing a “plan B”, and more than one. But the decision won’t be made until next week.

Speaking to the press after the completion of tests in Bahrain, Krak said plan A is to bring Lance back, but there could be several fallback options as the team has two reserve drivers: Felipe Drugovich, who worked on the tests with the AMR23 car, and Stoffel Vandorn, who was unable to fly to Bahrain as he was in South Africa that weekend, competing in Formula E with the DS Penske team.

“We have something like a plan B, but we have to decide on its implementation if it is impossible to act according to plan A,” said Krak. “We will have to make this decision in the coming days.”

Asked if the team could approach Sebastian Vettel, who has played for Aston Martin for the past two years, Krak replied: “As we said, we will discuss plan B next week. I called Sebastian a few times, but that was last year and in the future our communication will continue.”

Vettel, who decided to end his career, was replaced by Fernando Alonso in the team. At one time, these two riders were basically battling for the championship title, and it was Sebastian who achieved success. According to Krak, they are so different in character that they are very difficult to compare.

“Both are very fast drivers, both world champions, but one is Spaniard and the other German, so I think it’s difficult to compare them,” said Krak. – Everyone has their own style of communication, their own approach to interacting with the team. I think it would be incorrect to say which of them is better or worse in these areas, both are great champions.
