In all three test days, Red Bull Racing makes a very good impression and team leader Christian Horner confirms that the work is going according to plan, but of course refrains from evaluating the joining of forces.
Christian Horner: “During the tests we were able to do a lot of laps, try out a lot of different settings and get feedback from the drivers about the performance of the car. It is difficult to interpret the results of the rounds in detail, because we do not know what programs the opponents are working on and are completely focused on solving our own problems.
But in general, everything is more or less normal with our car. Sergio Perez is driving the RB19 today and his information is quite in line with Max Verstappen’s estimates. This pleases, because on both halves of our garage the further prospects for upgrading the car are about the same.
An important aspect of the testing is that we have the opportunity to try a lot of different things, to change a lot of things on the car, which we can’t do on race weekends. First of all, there is a process of mastering new technology, getting to know it in detail, we find out what suits the car, what doesn’t, how the rubber works and what the drivers’ preferences are.
It is still too early to judge the joining forces, but it seems that Ferrari has a very fast car, but Mercedes’ form is more difficult to judge. Let’s see, maybe they are hiding their true potential. But next week everything will become clear. It also seems that Aston Martin managed to add great, first of all Fernando Alonso looks quite competitive.
We are under special pressure this year, because eight years later we returned to the pits of the team that won the Constructors’ Championship. Everyone at Red Bull Racing feels proud to walk into this garage and the pressure comes from the fact that our goal is to stay first in both competitions. But the team has a real fighting spirit, everyone is extremely motivated and looking forward to the start of the first race.”
