Red Bull discusses the sale of the AlphaTauri team

In the near future, AlphaTauri is waiting for cardinal changes – the team will either change bases, move from Italian Faenza to the UK, or be sold.

Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport reports that Oliver Mintzlaff, who has headed Red Bull’s F1 program since the death of Dietrich Mateschitz, is considering two basic scenarios for AlphaTauri’s future. It turned out that under the current circumstances, the maintenance of the team from Faenza costs the Austrian energy drink manufacturer more than the maintenance of Red Bull Racing. In Formula 1 prize money, the “junior” team will receive about $100 million less than the championship team this year.

AlphaTauri’s business model, with headquarters in Faenza and aerodynamics in Bicester, UK, has proven ineffective and synergies with Red Bull Racing are not being fully exploited. In addition, the financial difficulties of the clothing brand are putting pressure on the team – several AlphaTauri branches will be closed in the near future.

At the moment, Red Bull is considering two basic options to solve AlphaTauri problems. The first is Faenza’s move to the UK and thus closer to Red Bull Racing. In the medium term, this results in significant savings.

The second scenario is the complete sale of the team. According to the publication, AlphaTauri’s price has already been announced for an amount of $700 million and there are already three potential buyers for the team – the same ones who will sign up to compete in Formula 1.

We are talking about the Andretti Cadillac project, the British Hitech GP team and the Indian construction company Gadhoke Group, owner of the Mumbai Falcons Racing Team, which competes in Asian Formula 3 and Middle East Formula Regional.

The most likely buyer for AlphaTauri is Hitech GP owner Oliver Oakes, who is believed to be financing his team with money from investors in Dubai. Red Bull has long had strong ties with Oakes – in recent years, members of the Austrian concern’s youth program have played for its team in Formula 2, and in 2023 Isaac Hadjar will join Hitech GP.
