Vanessa Maes, promoter of the Belgian Grand Prix, hopes that Spa will remain on the World Cup calendar and that a decision will be made soon enough. She said this on her return from Bahrain, where the promoters met with Formula 1 management.
The current contract of the Belgian side with Formula 1 expires this year, but the organizers of the race are doing everything possible to extend it.
“It is clear that places on the championship calendar are expensive,” said Maes in the broadcast of the Belgian TV channel RTBF. – This year the situation was already very difficult, but we proved that we did a great job in 2022, but now we have to take care of the future.
In Formula 1 they presented us with their vision of the future and we clearly meet all their requirements. The leadership of the championship is also happy that we are supported by the political leaders of our country. We hope that we can sign a contract for several years in the coming weeks and months and we will do everything for that.
It was very important to be present at the meeting in Bahrain, because it gives the opportunity to communicate with other initiators, with the FOM management and with the press. At such meetings it is possible to move forward in the negotiation process.”
