Fernando Alonso’s contract with the Alpine team will expire at the end of the season. At a press conference in Melbourne, the two-time Formula 1 world champion said he plans to play in the championship for a few more years.
Fernando Alonso: “If I were 25 years old, there would be no questions about my future. However, given my age, people are trying to find a way to get young talent behind the wheel, but I think it all depends on the results.
I did well last year and ended the season a bit ahead of Esteban Okon. Let’s see how our confrontation will develop this year. But again, it’s not about age, it’s about results. As I said at the beginning of the year, I feel competitive and fast, I enjoy Formula 1.
I plan to perform for a few more years, two or three years. It’s good if I spend this time with Alpine, but if I’m with another team, that’s fine too. We will probably start negotiations in the summer.”
