Speaking at a testing press conference in Bahrain, Williams’ new team principal James Vowles spoke about track priorities…
James Vowles: “The biggest problem is the lack of a full-fledged technical department in the team. Creating such a structure, inviting the technical director and the head of the aerodynamics department is our top priority. Her decision allows us to move on.
This is not about finding someone urgently for these positions, but about the long term. It is important to us that it is the right person. We are not going to make a decision hastily, the main thing is to find a person who is right for us in the long run.
The difference between Mercedes and Williams is huge, I only realized that when I was in the team. I used to work for a company where if you need something you ask for it and they give it to you. We had everything you can think of. And that’s a stark contrast to where I’m at right now, especially on a budget where it’s hard to request or even buy what you need.”
