Franz Tost: I expect De Vries to get immediate results

On the first day of testing in Bahrain, AlphaTauri boss Franz Tost said he wouldn’t give team rookie Nick de Vries time to adapt to Formula 1. Despite only spending one race last year, Nick has many victories to his credit. , including title in Formula E, so Toast is already expecting a result from his driver in the first leg of the season in Bahrain.

Franz Tost: “Whenever a new rider from outside the youth series comes to the team, he brings his own contribution, shares technical ideas. We were lucky that last year Nick had contracts with a lot of teams and drove several cars.

Our engineers received useful feedback from him, especially after the testing in Abu Dhabi, where he drove many laps and complained a lot about the car – for the engineers his words became an alarming sign. I hope we can now get Nick a car he likes.

We still have a lot to do, but I like it. Nick is doing very well, he has a lot of experience and at 28 he has already won many races and championships. I think he will immediately adapt to Formula 1 – I expect him to get results in first qualifying.”

Speaking of goals for the season, Tost said AlphaTauri needs to regain at least three positions in the Constructors’ Championship.

“Of course it all depends on how good our car is,” continues Toast. – I think our engineers did a great job over the winter – at least the numbers say so, but now we need to get proof on the track.

I expect at least to be in the top six. It’s harder to take fifth, so I won’t be mad if it doesn’t happen. In any case, sixth place is our goal at the end of the season.

It remains to be seen how good we are against the background of direct competitors. I think after three races we will get a clear picture of the balance of power.”
