Oscar Piastri will make his Formula 1 debut at the Bahrain Grand Prix. And while they are not very optimistic about their chances after pre-season testing at McLaren, Piastri and his partner Lando Norris are ready to fight.
Lando Norris: “The race week has finally started – I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel of the MCL60 and hit the track. I am entering my fifth season in Formula 1, but I have never been happier to be back in racing.
The tests were not without problems, but we are working hard to move forward and get back to the positions we want to be. The team has learned a lot about the car and has already made changes to improve efficiency where possible.
Thanks to the whole team for the work and effort put into building the MCL60. Let’s start the season.”
Oscar Pistri: “I am really looking forward to my first race in Formula 1. The fact that I will be driving it in the colors of McLaren makes the upcoming start very special. I’ve been waiting a long time for a debut in Formula 1, so it’s great to finally have it.
I am ready for the challenges ahead and ready to fight. It’s been a while since I last raced, but I can’t wait to get back. The work I’ve done with the team over the past few months and the warm welcome I’ve received from the McLaren staff and fans has prepared me well for the season.
I still have a lot to learn and feel comfortable behind the wheel of the MCL60. Our team still has a lot to do to get into the positions we want to be, but I look forward to the season with optimism.
I am ready for the track battles, the challenges and everything ahead. Let’s get to the start as soon as possible.”
Andrew Stella, team boss: “After a busy off-season and a number of productive days of testing, the whole team is looking forward to the Bahrain Grand Prix. We are ready to race in the year we celebrate our 60th anniversary.
The whole team has worked hard to make the MCL60 and I would like to thank our employees for the hard work and dedication in preparing for the season. A long 23-round championship lies ahead – difficulties are visible on the horizon, but we can count on a renewed great pair of drivers in Lando and Oscar, hard-working and talented employees, a strong partnership with HPP and the support of our commercial partners and great fans. We feel the power of this close-knit team.
It is still too early to make a prediction about the balance of power, but we are determined to regain our spot in the top four teams. We know it will be difficult and we have a lot of work to do, but overall we are optimistic about the season.”
