In the context of the uncertain situation with injured Lance Stroll, who may miss the Bahrain Grand Prix, having already missed pre-season testing, the press remembered Sebastian Vettel.
The four-time world champion retired, his place in Aston Martin F1 taken by Fernando Alonso, although things could of course take a curious turn if the team tried to get Vettel back to work. However, to stop all speculation, the team management has issued a special statement stating that if Stroll is not allowed to start, Alonso will team up with reserve pilot Felipe Drugovic.
Bernie Ecclestone, the former head of Formula 1’s management who has a good friendly relationship with Sebastian, does not believe Vettel will agree to a return.
“I don’t think he will come back. He eventually retired from Formula 1, Ecclestone said in an interview with DPA. – He did everything he could, won four titles, and he still can’t win seven titles, the age is not the same.
After ending his career, Vettel did the right thing. He is a world champion and if he is not confident that he will have a car at his disposal to fight for the title, then he simply will not waste a year of his life. We have a good relationship with him, we are friends. This has been the case since he first entered Formula 1. Sebastian takes everything very seriously and doesn’t like to lose.
