Frédéric Vasseur is preparing for his first season as Ferrari team principal. Prior to the Bahrain Grand Prix, the French specialist answered some questions from the Scuderia’s press service.
Q: The start of a new season is always a special moment. How is the mood in the team at the moment?
Frederick Vasseur: Over the course of my career, I have experienced similar feelings quite often, and they have always been special. I feel the passion coming not only from every employee in Maranello, but also from every fan – it only took me a few months to get to know their passion and excitement. We can’t wait for the season to start.
Q: What are your expectations for the first race taking into account how the pre-season testing went?
Frederick Vasseur: Testing went well – three days last week showed that the machine is up to expectations, and we need to keep fine-tuning to squeeze more out of it. One thing is clear: we are heading into the longest season in history, so whatever the result, the title cannot be won or lost in Bahrain.
Q: From a technical point of view, what do you expect from the weekend at Sakhir circuit?
Frederick Vasseur: We know the track quite well, but the changeable air and asphalt temperatures, the changeable wind direction and the new Pirelli tires will make it difficult to choose the right settings. However, Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc have collected a lot of information during the three days of testing, so we are well prepared for the weekend.
