Liberty Media, the main shareholder of Formula 1, has published its financial results for 2022. An increase in payments from podium promoters, broadcasters and sponsors, as well as an increase in the number of fans visiting the championship stages, allowed Formula 1 to increase its total revenue by 20% compared to 2021.
In 2022, payouts from promoters increased by 28.6%, from TV companies by 36.4% and from sponsors by 16.9%. Formula 1’s total turnover was $2.573 billion last year, an increase of 20% compared to 2021. Formula 1’s net profit has grown by a whopping 160% – from $92 million in 2021 to $239 million in 2022 .
Due to the revenue growth, the prize payments to teams also increased. If in 2021 all ten participants received a total of $ 1.068 billion, then the payments to Formula 1 teams in 2022 would amount to $ 1.157 billion.
In 2022, 5.7 million people visited the Formula 1 stages, which is 36% more than in 2019, the last pre-pandemic season. Last year, the total TV audience of Formula 1 was 1.54 billion people, in the US the viewership growth was 36%. The number of followers of Formula 1 on social media grew by 23% to 61 million.
