Alpine team boss on test results and his expectations for the first race of the season…
Q: How do you rate the results of the team’s pre-season testing in Bahrain?
Otmar Safnauer: Last Saturday we completed the pre-season testing with optimism, having completed the entire planned program and having a clear picture of the performance of the 2023 car. We have work to do, but we are happy with the current state of play for the first race of the season.
From the outside, our results are modest, but we have not yet revealed the potential of the machine. Nevertheless, the program has been completed from our side – we have worked steadily and received information for further development. The riders have given us similar comments, we are confident going into the first race of the season.
Q: What results are you looking forward to this weekend?
Otmar Safnauer: Everyone in the team is ready for the first race of the season. It’s been a busy winter, with our people working hard at the bases at Weary and Enstone to get more out of the car.
Ahead of a long 23 Grand Prix season in which what matters is what the results will be after the end, not at the start. By Sunday evening we will know our positions, we have a clear plan for the season ahead – we will focus on ourselves to achieve our goal.
In Bahrain, we will be posting this year’s first update on cars and we look forward to evaluating its effectiveness. Esteban and Pierre are ready to go, their goal is to earn points to start our campaign on a positive note.
