Former McLaren youth program member Nick de Vries has long said goodbye to the F1 dreams, but a surprise debut at Williams last year changed that. The Dutchman made a great impression, earned points and will spend the season at AlphaTauri this year.
In an interview with RacingNews365, de Vries talked about his experience.
Nick de Vries: “I often thought it would never happen. But I was not ready to give up on my dream, one or two percent of hope is enough to move on. As long as your chances are not zero, you are still in business.
Given the way my career has evolved, Mercedes’ departure from Formula E and the development of the hypercar story in the WEC has allowed me to keep all options open. It wasn’t always easy, but I remembered what I was striving for.
In the run-up to my first official weekend in Formula 1, I am very happy to be here. I really want to get good results with the team. My goal is to fulfill my potential, this is the only way to successfully continue my career in Formula 1. I’m totally focused on this, and what’s going to happen next – who knows.
